Gathering of Friends

On Sunday, Saki, Lance, and I entertained some guests, friends from our Ebina group.

We ate sandwiches and soup. Their appetites were quite small, so guess who will be eating sandwiches for lunch everday this week!

Babysitting

It's getting easier taking care of Lance when Saki has to work, well for the most part.

I made the mistake of going grocery shopping with him but opting to forgo the stroller. He was out of control! I had to scissor him between my legs while I was at the checkout counter. Never Again.

I took him to the park and took some photos. Something weird happen to my phone, vlbut I think the pics look cool!

Back to work at Kanda Institute for Winter Intensive Term. New students ( to me anyway) and they are very eager.

Hanging out with twenty-year old s makes me feel young!

The Conqueror

Lance was in the car with us while we did our ministry work on Sunday. So I let him walk around the neighborhood when we got back home.

Now I gave him free rein, letting him go where he wanted to. He struggled a bit but he walked from our house to the train station to look at trains! It is a 2 min walk from my apartment to the train tracks for an adult. For Lance it took 10 minutes! But he made it unassisted. The boy loves trains! Go Lance!

Japanese Fast Food

Fast food doesn't have to be bad for you. But most U.S. Fast food seems to be. (Insert your favorite conspiracy theory here!)

For example, real Japanese fast food like noodle shops or sushi restaurants serve cheap, fast, tasty foods that have a reasonable calorie count.

But if the cooks have to touch money and stuff it can be quite unsanitary, just like my favorite pizza shop in NYC Fiscati's where the dude who's making the dough, takes your money, then buries his hands back into kneading the dough. Yummy!

Most Japanese FF places have a vending machine that sells you tickets. You select what you want from the machine and the you have two choices:

1) eat the ticket, which isn't very satisfying believe me!

2) give the ticket to the cook and he'll exchange it for a bowl of hot tasty noodles!

Decisions decisions!

End of the Year Trips

Already 2010. Can anyone believe it? I thought that we'd be in Paradise by now! Shows how much I now!
Well if not paradise, where are all the flying cars, jet packs, and pocket TVs?( well actually Japan has had pocket TVs for years now, free with every cell phone and no monthly fee)

Anyway, this year we went with Saki's family to Yamanashi Prefecture, Kawaguchi city (bear the glorious Mt. Fuji). It was really fun! One day some of us went skiing. I skiied for most of the day, then switched to a snowboard for the last hour. This was my second time to snowboard. It was really fun this time.

We also went to Fuji Q Highland. It is a great amusement park with some awesome rollercoasters. It has the highest rollercoaster, and a rollercoaster which flips you upside down 14 times.

Weakling's Revenge

Saki got sick! Saki got sick! Nooooo! Moms are not allowed to get sick! Thankfully it was only for a day. She had some kind of stomach virus that made her feel miserable. I was a semi-good husband and helped out. Lance did too!

Then the next day I got the same thing but worse! (throwing up, etc) Saki's dad came over. He's all into exercise. He runs 7km each day to work. So he tells me " Anthony wa yowai ne" ( you're weak). "Itsumo kaze wo hiite imasu ne" (You get sick all the time!) So I said "Sou desu ne" ( that's right)

That same day our airbed (we've been using it since we got here) finally died and we had nowhere to sleep so we went Saki's parents house to spend the night. The next day, guess what! Saki's dad's stomach hurt and he was feeling really cold.(The same symtoms we had). So he asked me if I had any medicine left. Of course I did and gladly gave it to him.

When I was younger, I would have gloated, now I just laughed secretly to myself, like the caged bird who sees the family dog run into the glass screen door.

Eventhough I did get sick in NYC and Ohio, I managed o only get sick once a year or so.

Something about me in Japan, I get sick at least once in the summer and once in the winter. This winter is my second time.

I used to sigh when my friends and family here say "Anthony wa yowai ne?" meaning your weak, right? but now I just nod my head.
